 The Poetry Game
« Thread Started on Feb 8, 2007, 9:25am »

This was a game I played a long time ago in another forum in which people would roleplay a simple story with these rules:

1. when you interact in the RP, it has to be in poetry form
2. it has to rhyme somehow.
3. have fun.

It never got off the ground there, but I have a feeling that you guys will take to it like a fish to water.

And don't worry if you're like me and are awful at poetry. The point is to have fun with it. Everybody is going to have a different style, and I hope that it will make for an interesting sonnet. The really clever ones might even play off another's post! But no Haikus! They're too easy. If you've got to do a haiku (oh, look at me! Already rhyming!) then at least make it rhyme.

The setting is probably going to be medieval (so we can use those crazy words like thou) but I'd like to get a feel for this idea's reaction before I begin.

[NOTE:

If this is in the wrong section

and should instead be in the RP direction,

I apologize. But!

Little is what I bet

I know on the subject,

so I leave the matter

open to debate.

But wait!

I cannot help my fate!

You see...

{That's all you need

like water to a seed

once you start to write

you'll do good inspite

all the doubts you think of

everything will fit together like a glove.}

...

Yeah, that sucked

but my poetry has

never been what

some would

consider good.

Ohh! See what I did there?

NOTE#2: The part in {} was written by a friend of mine to describe the RP. I have stolen it with his permission. ]

(( Aye. That sounds very cool to me. Just because I'm me, I shall ask if you will start or if I may. ))

I can't escape this hell
So many times I've tried
But I'm still caged inside
Somebody get me through this nightmare
I can't control myself

So what if you can see the darkest side of me?
No one will ever change this animal I have become
Help me believe it's not the real me
Somebody help me tame this animal

Because I'm perpetually drained of creative ideas, I'll let you (or anybody else who wants) begin. But let's set the setting as...medieval fantasy (elves, wizards, knights, and the like) and start the journey!

From cottage to castle,
from children to old,
with silver bells a-ringing,
the same story is told.
Adults a-weeping,
in day's happy gleam,
but within rode-side tavern,
things are not what they seem.

Against the wall,
in corner of black,
with cloaked head,
a vision of black.
No stirring may seem,
but within hidden form,
a heart beats so strangely,
this hume is not norm.

Lifting pale hand to meet golden eye,
boots hitting softly on ground beneath,
the figure say nothing,
but sword sings in its sheath.

((Whoop for terrible...ness!))

OoC: This looks really really fun and I'm gonna join tomorrow when I've slept--IF people are still interested in it, as I note the last post was made more than a week ago. Any input?

O Captain my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
